Proposed Pitbull Ban In Chicago
As some of you know, #19 Alderman Virgina Rugai, is launching an all out attack on pit bulls. She is proposing a ban on all pit bulls in the city of Chicago--this includes many licensed Therapy Dogs, Certified "Canine Good Citizen" Dogs, and even registered service dogs, not to mention the beloved pets of law abiding citizens.
By proposing this ban, she is broadcasting her ignorance to the world. She is attempting to go against "The Ryan Armstrong Law" passed last August by Governor Blagojevich that outlaws breed bans, stating that Breed Specific Bans and Laws are unconstitutional and ineffective in solving any canine related problems. The Alabama State Supreme Court declared Breed Specific Legislation to be unconstitutional, finding that there is no genetic evidence that one breed of dog is more dangerous than another. She is even going against Mayor Daley and the Chicago Animal Care and Control System, who have long opposed breed specific laws, favoring the more effective "Dangerous Dog Legislation" that is currently in place. The problem does not lie in the dogs, or even in the laws themselves--the problem lies in the dog owners and the inability to enforce the laws already in place.
This is an important cause, so please support it by signing this petition.
